Beware
of Your Roads!
As he(Saul) neared Damascus on his journey, suddenly a light from
heaven flashed around him. He fell to the ground and heard a voice
say to him, “Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?” “Who are you, Lord?” Saul asked (Acts 9:3-4)
Look what Saul did to Stephen? He engineered the death of Stephen. Satisfied
with the execution of Stephen, Saul was on his way to Damascus seeking a
capital punishment against the Lord’s disciples. As he neared Damascus breathing
out murderous threats against the Lord’s disciples, he was knocked down and heard God's voice
saying, "why do you persecute me?” Saul asked saying, “Who are you, Lord?”
What a tragedy being zealot for God without knowing God himself! What a paradox trying to please God against
his will! What a loss walking on the wrong road!
My friend, like Saul, many of us do the same. We make the wrong
decisions, go astray and go collapsed. Look what happened to Saul! He thought that
he was campaigning for God but he was only persecuting God. He was fighting the
wrong fight. What a
loss!
My friend, do you get the point
here? Saul who was the Pharisee and knowledgeable of many religious teachings and
student of Gemaliel, a
famous member of the Jewish Sanhedrin
and an scholar of the Law, did not know Jesus until he was encountered
God on his road to Damascus.
Have we checked ourselves? Are we cautious
of our courses of actions? Are we beware of our ways?
